What Is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy is a type of surgery that uses very small incisions in the abdomen. A long, slender device called a laparoscope is inserted through one of these incisions. A light and a tiny camera are attached to the laparoscope. These let the surgeon view pictures of the inside of the abdomen on a screen. Other tools are inserted through the incisions. These tools are used to perform the surgery.

Laparoscopy lets you avoid having a large incision in the abdomen. This "open" surgery is called abdominal hysterectomy.Compared to open surgery, laparoscopy may:
