What is robotic surgery?

During robotic surgery, a magnified vision system provides an image of the surgical site. This image is projected on a screen in the operating room so Dr. Neal or Dr. Quinata can see clearly.

The doctors control tiny wristed instruments using a console in the surgical room. The robotic instruments have a far greater range of motion and precision compared to the human hand. The doctor is 100% in control of your surgery at all times.

What is laparoscopic surgery?

A laparoscope is a thin, lighted telescope that allows the doctors to see inside your body. Dr. Neal and Dr. Quinata may recommend laparoscopy for diagnostic or treatment purposes. The laparoscope is inserted through small incisions to evaluate you for endometriosis or fibroids when imaging tests, such as ultrasound, are inconclusive.

If offending tissue is found, the doctors can then remove it using miniature instruments that go in through the same small incisions.

Laparoscopic surgery is often performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you go home the same day.

What symptoms suggest minimally invasive surgery may be necessary?

You may be a candidate for laparoscopic surgery if you have a condition such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis. Symptoms that suggest these conditions include:
